Medical Supplies & Equipment Company, LLC provides quality animal allergy reduction products, including:

Of the many animal allergies, dog and cat allergies are the most prevalent, although many allergy sufferers react to birds, horses, cows and pigs. It is not the cat or dog hair itself that causes the allergy, but the old skin cells (dander) that are constantly being shed. Allergic individuals may produce allergy antibodies (IgE) when exposed to a protein found in cat hair roots and cats' salivary glands. The allergy antibodies cause mast cells to release histamine, exploding "allergy bombs" in the body.

A major problem for those genetically predisposed to allergies occurs when cat dander or dog dander becomes airborne. Inhaling animal dander may cause allergic reactions, including sneezing, watery and itching eyes, hives, coughing and constricting of bronchial tubes, making breathing difficult.

You may react with pet allergy symptoms to one cat and not another. Long-haired cats and dogs do not necessarily produce more animal dander than short-haired pets. Individual pets produce individual amounts of animal dander.

Controlling animal allergies:

The best method of controlling animal allergies is avoidance. If a family member has a severe reaction to a family pet, the best solution is to find the pet another home. Long-term exposure to animal dander causing frequent allergy flare-ups can hinder a child's success in school and can lead to permanent lung damage.

Tips for less severe reactions to animal dander:

  • Keep your pet out of the house, and in particular, out of the bedroom.
  • Keep pets off furniture, especially upholstered furniture where animal dander can be transferred.
  • Use a room air purifier brand, such as Taskmaster, Panasonic, Delonghi or Spring Air  in the bedroom to remove airborne animal dander.
  • Always wear a 3M mask and protective gloves when grooming your pet.
  • Bathe your pet weekly with Allerpet, a shampoo and conditioner, which removes pet dander.
  • Remove clothing worn after grooming or playing with pets. Keep the clothing, now full of animal dander, out of the bedroom. Wash clothing with Allersearch Wash Detergent or De-mite Laundry Additive.
  • Always wash your face, hands and arms after grooming or playing with pets to remove animal dander.

Reduce exposure to other allergens:

  • Allergy reactions are cumulative. Like stacking "allergy blocks," every exposure to an allergen adds a block, until one more allergen exposure causes the stack to fall-creating an allergy flare-up.
  • Install either a Taskmaster Health mate or Pleat-A-Static high-performance allergy-free electrostatic air filter in your central air conditioning and heating system to extract animal dander.
  • Replace regular filters on air conditioning system air returns with either a Taskmaster Healthmate or Pleat-A-Static Allergen Reduction Air Filter for maximum animal dander reduction.
  • Choose the "Circulate" setting for home and auto air conditioning system to avoid introducing animal dander allergens from outside.
  • Remove carpet and area rugs if possible, and wash rugs in hot water with Allersearch Wash Detergent every week to remove animal dander. Animal dander can become airborne by walking through carpet or moving about on upholstered furniture.
  • Use a Taskmaster vacuum cleaner with a high-efficiency HEPA filter and a Micro-lined Vacuum Bag or a Micro-Lined Anti-Bacterial Vacuum Bag to trap and hold animal dander.
  • Dust with a Delonghi Steam Mop that attract and keep animal dander from becoming airborne.

Animal allergy treatment:

  • Avoidance of Animal Allergens-Cat Dander, Dog Dander and Animal Saliva
  • Symptomatic Medications-Drug Therapy.
  • Immunotherapy-Animal Allergy Desensitizing Injection.
